Egypt, Tunisia, the whole MIddle East is roiling. The price of oil is on the rise. I worry about the cost of heating a mammouth house and call the contractor, inquiring if the heat can be zoned. We have zoned heat in our farmhouse, which means you can turn heat on and off, depending on which room you're in.
You can't zone steam heat, is the disappointing answer. "But you can put adjusters on the radiators. You probably won't want to do that, though."
Why? I ask.
"Because they're ugly."
The radiators are ancient, magnificently scrolled iron works of art. But oil is predicted to go over $4. Our radiators might have be a little less handsome.
